digiGO: Accelerating digitalization in construction with data, standards, and collaboration

The (Dutch) construction sector faces significant challenges: the Netherlands needs to build more homes, buildings must become energy-neutral, and processes must become much more efficient. Digitization is essential in this regard, and digiGO (Digital Built Environment) plays a central role by stimulating collaboration regarding data, standards, and digital systems. In this article, we explain what digiGO entails, what the initiative aims to achieve, and how it shapes the future of digitization in the construction sector.

As Etimix PIM, we are intensively involved in digiGO, both within the project and in the project group. We actively contribute ideas regarding the standardization and exchange of data and its concrete application in the construction and installation sector. With our expertise, we contribute to the development of future-proof digital standards and the optimization of data flows within the sector.

digiGO is connecting the chain

digiGO stands for Digitale Gebouwde Omgeving (Digital Built Environment) and is a Dutch initiative that accelerates digitalization in the construction and installation sector. The program brings together companies, trade associations, and knowledge institutions to improve digital collaboration.

Many organizations in the construction industry now work with digital systems such as BIM, ERP systems, PIM systems, and project management software. However, in practice, it turns out that these systems often do not communicate well with each other.

The result is that information has to be re-entered, data becomes fragmented, and projects experience delays. digiGO aims to solve these problems by stimulating better data exchange and collaboration throughout the supply chain.

Without solid data, everything stalls

Digitalization in the construction sector is becoming increasingly important. The sector is under pressure due to the housing challenge, sustainability requirements, and the increasing complexity of projects.

Through digitalization, companies can:

  • Colleborate more efficiently

  • Reduce errors in projects

  • Build faster

  • Lower costs

  • Stimulate innovation

However, this only works when systems and data are well connected. Therefore, organizations within digiGO are working on shared standards and digital infrastructures.

What does digiGO aim to achieve?

1. Shareable and reusable information

Information regarding products, projects, and buildings must be recorded once and subsequently be reusable across different systems. This prevents duplicate data entry and reduces errors.

2. Accessible information

Data must be available to all parties in the construction chain, such as manufacturers, wholesalers, installers, contractors, and consultants. Making information more accessible makes collaboration more efficient.

3. New functions and digital working methods

When data is better organized and linked, new possibilities emerge, such as digital building configuration, automated calculations, and real-time project information.

4. Innovation in the construction sector

Digitalization creates room for innovation. Think of digital twins of buildings, AI applications in construction processes, and automated supply chains.

The Digital System for the Built Environment (DSGO)

An important part of digiGO is the Digital System for the Built Environment (DSGO). This system forms a digital infrastructure in which systems can securely exchange information.

Within the DSGO, for example, product data, building information, and project data can be better connected. This allows systems in the sector to collaborate more efficiently.

What does digiGO mean for companies?

For companies in the construction and installation sector, digiGO means that data is becoming increasingly important. Organizations must better structure their product information, project data, and systems to facilitate digital collaboration.

Important elements include:

  • structured product data

  • data standards such as ETIM

  • systems capable of sharing data

  • integrations between platforms

Companies that organize their data well can benefit more quickly from digitalization in the construction sector.

The future of digitalization in construction

Digitization in the construction sector is still in its early stages, but developments are accelerating rapidly. Initiatives such as digiGO demonstrate that the sector is increasingly collaborating to enable digital innovation.

In the future, systems will integrate better, data will play a more central role in processes, and digital supply chain collaboration will become the norm.

DigiGO thus represents an important step towards a smarter, more efficient, and more sustainable built environment.

This is where the difference is made

Etimix ensures product data is structured, complete and exchangeable. We actively contribute to digiGO, working on both standardisation and real-world application. Using ETIM as a foundation, we bring structure to product data so it becomes directly usable across the chain.

Not as another system. But as a foundation that works.

Fix your data before the chain forces you to

Don’t wait until projects stall or partners push back because your data doesn’t fit.

Look at where things break today. Where information gets stuck. Where systems fall short.

Book a short session with Etimix. We’ll make it concrete: where you stand, what’s missing, and what it takes to make your data actually work within a digital supply chain.

Let’s look at your data

If product data is slowing things down, it won’t fix itself.

Etimix helps bring structure where systems and data don’t align.

We’ll look at your situation together. No sales talk. Just clarity on where things break and what’s needed to move forward.

Let’s connect.
